Horseshoe Bend Residents Urged To Leave Due To Rising Water

PARKER COUNTY (CBS 11 NEWS) - After heavy rains moved through North Texas Sunday night and Monday morning, evacuations continued in Parker County.

Swift water rescue crews made dozens of trips to help stranded people since Monday morning.

"They persuaded us into leaving, so we left," said homeowner Darren Blackmon.

Rescuers picked up his entire family, including two grandchildren and two dogs from their house in Horseshoe Bend.

"It's real bad," said Blackmon. "Lots of debris. Lots of snakes. It's not good."

Officials have been urging everyone in Horseshoe Bend to leave, but some homeowners refuse to leave. In one case, a couple called for help, then turned the boat away.

"We asked them if they called, and they said 'yes'," said rescuer Jeff Kees with Parker County Swift Water. "We said, 'who is coming with us, and they said, if we can't bring our stuff, we're not going to come'."

Officials think people like that will change their mind as the rain continues.

They expect water levels to rise to the highest levels since 2007.

"I don't think they know what's going on," said Kees. "They think it's just a little bit of water, and it will recede, and they'll get on with their lives"
