Homeowner Shoots, Kills Man Burglarizing His Home
SAGINAW (CBSDFW.COM) – A 27-year-old homeowner shot and killed a man who was breaking into his Saginaw residence Monday afternoon, police spokesman Damon Ing said.
David Wilson, 27, walked in on a burglary in progress at his home in the 200 block of Straw Road at about 2 p.m. Monday. There was a fight, and Ing said Wilson shot the suspected burglar.
Wilson lives there with his wife and toddler. They were not home at the time of the shooting.
"For this street, it's crazy. I've never seen, I mean, never, seen anything happen before," said neighbor Cody Thomas. "We've been here 10 years."
Crime tape quickly covered the home while investigators scoured the residence for evidence. Police left the scene at about 6 p.m., nearly four hours after arriving.
Neighbors mirrored Thomas's thoughts: They said the crime is unheard of in the area, and many are curious as to why Wilson's home was targeted.
"It makes me worried that someone might try to break in the house when we are at work or not home," said Aaron Rangel, who lives on the block.
Neighbors said Wilson is a good fire fighter who has been with the Keller Fire Department for five years. They described him as an affable family man who made a point to meet and befriend residents on the block.
"Always asked to help you," Thomas said. "He'd do whatever for you."
Wilson will be placed on administrative leave while police further investigate the crime. The burglary suspect's name has not been released.
