History of Ef-5 and F-5 Tornadoes
I wanted to list all the EF-5 and F-5 tornadoes that have ever been recorded in the United States. I found the list on the Storm Predictions Website. The EF scale was introduced as the new standard on Feb. 1 of 2007. Any tornado with winds estimated at or above 200 mph is considered to be an EF-5. The old F-scale had a higher classification for a tornado to be considered to be an F-5. In fact winds has to be estimated to be between 261 to 318 mph for a tornado to be considered an F-5. So what this means is that many tornadoes that were classified as F-4 in the past may have been ranked as EF-5 in the new scale. Regardless, these large tornadoes are very rare. Here is a list and map of all the EF-5 and F-5 tornadoes that have been recorded.
