PLANO (CBS11) – A 125-year-old historic carriage house at the Heritage Farmstead Museum in Plano is undergoing a major restoration effort.

The house was lifted up whole and then rolled away 10 feet by crews using specialized machinery.

Kathy Strobel, of the Heritage Farmstead Museum says the home was moved to make necessary repairs to the rotting foundation, as well as the carriage house itself.

It will then be placed back on the original foundation.

"It's very important to telling the story of Plano's past," said Strobel.

The restoration is being made possible by a $75,000 grant awarded to the museum by the City of Plano.

Once fully lifted and removed from its foundation, curators from the museum will begin an archeological dig at the site in hopes of finding what Strobel describes as hidden treasures.

"Maybe there is some old tool that might have fallen in there," said Strobel.  "I'd like to think that maybe they buried a safe in there...wouldn't that be exciting?"

The entire project is expected to last two weeks.

Strobel said it would be completed just in time for the yearly rush of students visiting on field trips.
