State Trooper Shot Following Chase; Standoff With Suspect At Frisco Apartment Complex

FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - A Texas Highway Patrol trooper was shot during a traffic stop in Frisco Friday afternoon.

A standoff with the suspect was still going on at 11:25 p.m. at La Valencia apartment complex of Lebanon Road.

At that point it had been going on for about eight hours.

Federal, state and local law enforcement surrounded the complex.

Just before 10:00 p.m., Frisco Police tweeted, "Multiple agencies continue to collaborate in an effort to bring this barricaded person incident to a peaceful conclusion. Again, the patience and concern shown by our residents is appreciated."

It all started on the Dallas North Tollway near Spring Creek.

The driver evaded the trooper and continued driving north to the 6800 block of Lebanon Road before stopping in an apartment complex parking lot. At some point after the vehicle stopped, the trooper was shot by a single suspect.

The trooper was transported by Frisco Police to an area hospital for treatment.

The trooper is in stable condition and out of surgery. Doctors said it went well.

A nearby school was placed on lockdown during the search for the suspect in the afternoon.

Police urged people to stay clear of the area.

"We're asking residents in the area to stay where you are, to stay safe inside your home... if you're already out of the area, do not try to return to your home," said Officer Radd Rotello, Frisco Police Department.
