Heat Wave Reaches the Half-Way Point
If the forecasters are right, we are smack in the middle of an 18-day heat wave with triple-digit highs. Sunday was our ninth straight day hitting 100 or more on the official thermometer at DFW Airport. Today, the National Weather Service is predicting today's high to hit 101 with a Heat Index of 105. The same forecasters are expecting North Texas will see triple-digits every day now through August 17th while the 18th might make it no higher than 98, or so. Eighteen straight is not even close to the epic heat wave of 1980 when Dallas-Fort Worth was afflicted with 42 straight days of 100-degrees or higher.
