Heat Wanes Slightly
We break the streak of Heat Advisories after a six day run of them. Tomorrow we expect another 100° day but it'll produce a heat index just under the criteria of 105. Air quality could be a problem tomorrow; an ORANGE ALERT is in effect for the metro area for tomorrow.
We continue to watch some very meager shower activity brew across the eastern third of north Texas. So far very small showers from the flow from the east. Yesterday evening some of this activity actually produced some rain for the metro, DFW recorded a modest .09" of rain but that was the first measurable rain for the month and the first since June 21st (26 days ago).
Lows tonight should reach down only to the low 80's for the 12th morning in a row. In this streak three record high minimum marks have been broken or tied at DFW. The mornings should not be this muggy but there is a chance we'll stay in the 80's for lows all of the week ahead.
There is also a chance that we continue our streak of 100° weather. The weather pattern will continue to bring in clouds, rain chances and surface winds from the east. Of all days ahead the best chance that we DON'T hit at least 100 is on Tuesday. We'll see, it certainly won't be a sign that the heat wave is abating but any means; the high will likely still be around 99° and we should finish the week with 100 plus weather. The current streak is 16 days, which puts this occurrence in the top ten steaks but no where near the record set back in 1980 for 42 days. There has now been 23 days of 100 degree marks or above, the typical year brings 16.
The weather forecast:
Monday a 10% chance of storms, mostly in the east and southeast. High of 100 degrees with an east wind 5-10 mph.
Tuesday a 20% chance of afternoon storms, mostly in the eastern half including the metroplex. Partly cloudy with a high of 99 degrees.
Wednesday a 10% chance of afternoon storms, mostly in the eastern third with a high right back around 100.
We expect 100 plus weather into next weekend with dry conditions. The absence of sustained rain continues with all but 3% of entire state of Texas in drought. Below is the forecast for rainfall totals for the next 5 days. You can see there is footprint of rain from this eastern flow but it doesn't reach very far into the Lone Star State.
