Heat Advisory Extended Into Friday

The HEAT ADVISORY, which was supposed to end this evening, has been stretched into Friday.

The big ridge of high pressure is forecast to hold on strong even through Friday, even as the wind picks up a bit out of the south.  That breeze will enhance our fire danger Friday.

The temperatures Friday afternoon may be a degree or two less, but it's still going to be very hot and when you combine the temperature with the humidity, heat index numbers will once again be over 105°.

High pressure will gradually weaken into the weekend.  But it will still be hot with high temps near 100°.  By Monday, the high will move just far enough to the east to allow a weak cold front to move into Oklahoma.  This may be enough to give us a few more clouds and a VERY small chance of rain...but mostly off to our east.

Tropical Storm Ernesto has now formed in the Atlantic, about 300 miles east of the Windward Islands of the eastern Caribbean.  This storm is forecast to move into the Caribbean over the next few days.

The official track has Ernesto moving south of the islands, but could impact especially Jamaica by early next week.  Ernesto is forecast to become a hurricane by Monday as it approaches the Yucatan Peninsula.  Vacationers beware!

This storm does have a chance of moving into the Gulf of Mexico and head toward the Texas coast by the end of next week, but that is FAR from certain at this point.  But of course it bears watching during the next week.
