Harden Off DL, Feldmen On DL
The Texas Rangers announced the following roster moves this afternoon:
" RHP Rich Harden (#40) activated off 15-day disabled list
" C Matt Treanor (#20) activated off 15-day disabled list
" C Taylor Teagarden optioned to Oklahoma City (AAA)
" RHP Scott Feldman placed on 15-day disabled list, retroactive to yesterday, with a bone bruise in his right knee
Harden is the scheduled starter for tonight's series opener against Minnesota. He was placed on the disabled list on Aug. 15 (retroactive to Aug. 8) with right shoulder tendinitis, as today was his first eligible date to be activated. He was originally scheduled to start Tuesday's game in Tampa Bay, but made a rehabilitation start for Oklahoma City on Wednesday vs. Reno (6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R-0 ER, 3 BB, 10 SO, 101 pitches/64 strikes).
Harden has made 2 starts for Texas since his first disabled list stint, June 12-July 30 with a left gluteal muscle strain. His last start for the Rangers was Aug. 7 at Oakland, taking the loss while allowing 3 runs in 2.1 innings. Overall this season, he has gone 4-4 with a 5.45 ERA (45 ER/74.1 IP) in 15 games/starts for Texas.
Treanor suffered a strained posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in his right knee during a 7th-inning groundout on July 23 vs. LA of Anaheim. He played 5 games on an injury rehabilitation assignment with Oklahoma City, going 3-for-15 with a walk, 2 runs, and 2 RBI in 4 starts at catcher and one as the designated hitter. He went 0-for-3 as the starting catcher yesterday at Round Rock.
Treanor has batted .225 with 5 home runs and 23 RBI in 64 games for Texas this season. He leads the team in games (64) and starts (51) behind the plate and has caught 11 of 44 (25.0%) runners attempting to steal. Acquired in a March 22 trade with Milwaukee, Treanor opened the season with Oklahoma City (AAA) but had his contract purchased on April 8. Please note that Treanor gave up his uniform number for Cristian Guzman on Aug. 10 and now wears no. 20.
Teagarden was recalled from Frisco (AA) on July 24 when Treanor was placed on the disabled list. Since being recalled, Teagarden batted .241 (7-29) with 4 homers and 6 RBI in 11 games. His 4 home runs in that span trailed only Josh Hamilton (5) and Michael Young (5) among Rangers. For the season, Teagarden is batting .143 in 21 games.
Feldman left the game on Saturday in Baltimore with the knee injury. This is the first career disabled list stint for Feldman, who had been on the club's active roster since mid-July in 2008. Feldman has gone 6-9 with a 5.43 ERA in 25 games/20 starts for Texas this season. The first date he is eligible to be activated is Sept. 6.
With these moves, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster.
