Hackers Plan To Target Banking Websites
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Anyone who does banking online could face some frustration on Tuesday. Hackers are reportedly planning to target various banking institutions and websites, forcing customers offline. The threat has made many banks nationwide nervous about what could follow.

That threat was posted on a website called Pastebin. It lists nine federal agencies and more than 100 financial institutions as targets for a computer attack, including Texas-based Prosperity Bank. The hacker group has called the planned cyber-attack "Operation USA."
The hackers said that their motive is for the banking attack is "America's war crimes" in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and in the United States.
Prosperity Bank alerted its customers by email. "We have been informed that a criminal group has announced plans to launch online attacks against a number of banks, including Prosperity Bank," the alert stated. "In these type of attacks, the target organization's website may be overwhelmed by a large volume of outside requests which slows down traffic so that legitimate customer requests cannot be addressed." The bank also stated that such attacks rarely compromise customer information, and are really just an inconvenience.
The financial community spends millions of dollars working to repel these distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks.
