Great Weekend Shaping Up For North Texas

COLDEST MORNING OF THE YEAR…

Okay, that isn't saying much because we have only had 13 days so far this year.  But this morning was the coldest of those 13 days!  We had a low of 26 at DFW this morning.  The previous coldest morning was 28 degrees on Jan. 3.  The coldest temp recorded at DFW so far this winter was 22 degrees on Dec. 8th.

Here is a look at some of the lows from this morning.

GREAT WEATHER FOR THE WEEKEND…

We will have chilly mornings but pleasant afternoons this weekend.  TONIGHT will see clear skies and temperatures dropping below freezing.  The low at DFW will be 32, but many areas will drop into the 20s tonight.

TOMORROW will be sunny and pleasant with a high of 63.

SUNDAY will feature sunny skies in the morning with increasing clouds during the afternoon.  Temps will start near 40 at daybreak and then warm into the mid to upper 60s Sunday afternoon.  It will get breezy Sunday afternoon with winds South at 10 to 20 mph.

MONDAY… Cloudy skies will greet the start to MLK Day.  There may be a little spotty drizzle especially east of Dallas Monday morning.  Temperatures will be very mild in the morning starting around 55 degrees.  Winds will be strong out of the south/southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35.  Clouds will break in the afternoon and temps will warm into the low 70s!  If we clear out sooner we could make a run for the upper 70s Monday afternoon!

COLD FRONT FOR TUESDAY…
A cold front will arrive Tuesday morning.  I don't expect any rain with this front but it will turn cooler on Tuesday with highs in the 50s.

QUIET WEATHER PATTERN FOR NEXT 14 DAYS…

The weather pattern across the United States will look like a typical La Nina winter pattern.  La Nina is the cooling of the waters in the Central Pacific Ocean.  We have talked about how La Nina brings Texas drier and warmer than normal conditions in the winter.  There will be a very active Jetstream across the northern part of the country, but the southern half of the US will be influenced by high pressure.  This means mostly dry weather and above average temperatures thru the heart of January.
