Grand Prairie Police Undergo Ambush Training

GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW) - Weeks after five officers where killed after being ambushed by a shooter in Downtown Dallas, some police departments in North Texas are training their officers to help prepare for a similar attack.
Grand Prairie Police on Thursday began training all officers new techniques to eliminate threats that come out of nowhere.
"We're starting to see more aggression. Instead of the hiding and the suspects are hiding behind areas, the suspects are starting to push towards us more," said Sgt. Anthony Hogan with Grand Prairie Police.
Hogan said nationwide, 14 of the 32 officers who've been killed in the line of duty were through ambush attacks.
"The people are now changing tactics again us. So what we have to do is start changing our tactics to counter what they're doing to us," said Hogan.
All 261 GPPD officers are learning the new tactics.
Instead of taking cover under fire, officers are now being taught to quickly move in on the threat.
"We're going to increase the aggression. We're going to have superior aggression towards them," said Hogan.
Officers in Grand Prairie are also receiving heavy-duty armored vests and helmets to combat the higher caliber bullets being used by several shooters.
