Gavin's Prince Fielder Theory Rounds Out
DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - My prince fielder theory totally rounded out tonight. Here ya go.
If Prince signs with the Rangers for 6 years and $132 million with a three year opt out...Prince gets about $65 mil for three years. In those three years, he kills it at BPIA, has postseason success, and builds his value for free agency.
In 2015, a time when Albert Pujols will not be a free agent, Fielder be 30 and will become a free agent and get his 8 years and $200 mil. Total years under contract 13, total money $265 mil.
If he signs with the Nationals now, he'll get 9 years and $200 mil. And in 2021, when he's 36 years old, fat, and much less awesome (as any 36 year old could tell you) he will not command close to 3 years and $65 million. More like 2 years, $10 mil. Total years under contract 11, total money $210 mil.
The Rangers are slow playing a very strong hand and they want to see how low Prince is willing to go to get this thing done.
The Rangers don't want to make a Josh or Prince decision, but Prince is going to make the offer so sweet they'll have to sign the fat man and cross the Hambino bridge when they get to it.
