Fort Worth Man Dead After Being Mistaken For A Deer

HENDERSON (CBSDFW.COM) - A Fort Worth man is dead after being shot in the head by a hunter in East Texas.

Louis N. Conner Jr., 41, of Fort Worth was killed Saturday morning in the eastern part of Rusk County, about 130 miles southeast of Dallas.

The Rusk County Sheriff's Office says they were called to a deer lease around 10:00 Saturday morning.  When they arrived they found Conner dead.

A press release from the sheriff's office says a hunting party was on the lease and saw what they thought was a deer.  When they found Conner, they called the authorities.

On Monday, the hunter, 54-year-old Rodney Connally, was arraigned on a felony charge of unlawful possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $50,000.

The sheriff's office press release indicated Connally had a previous felony arrest.

A Rusk County official described the investigation as an "accidental shooting, but said the results of the investigation will be forwarded to prosecutors.
