FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - Body cams seem to be something everyone wants police to wear. But do parents want officers wearing those cameras inside schools?
That's the question being asked for in Frisco where classes are set to begin with officers patrolling the halls wearing them.
CBS 11 News has learned that soon they will be worn by Frisco school resource officers.
Frisco freshman Sam Derby says he supports the idea to outfit officers with body cams at eight high schools and 15 middle schools.
"I think it would help me just to show nor a tainted point of view of what happened," says Darby.
Police departments and schools. districts in other states have already started using them.
Critics worry that body cams that record fights in locker rooms and restrooms would violate a student's privacy.
Sam's dad can understand those concerns.
"I haven't thought of that maybe turn it off when you walk into the restroom or if you are walking into the locker room," says Doug Darby.
A civil liberties group says, "It's a problem that body cameras in schools likely will end up being another tool in the school-to-prison pipeline," says Erica Johnson, Advocacy Director, American Civil Liberties Union.
That doesn't worry those students like Darby says he's never had problems with the officer in his school.
"I really like that most of them are all friendly," he says.
