Frisco Mayor Becomes Frisco Firefighter

FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - By day, Maher Maso is the Mayor of Frisco. But for a brief moment Monday, the Mayor traded in his city hall hat and donned a firefighter's cap. "Thank God everybody is okay," said Maso. "They're a very nice family and they weren't aware that the fire had started."

Mayor Maso was driving home Monday afternoon to change out of his suit. That's when he spotted flames coming from the back of Bob and Jeanette Pollock's Frisco home.

The fire ignited in the couple's backyard pool filter and chlorinating pump. "When I pulled up, all I saw was flames in the back of the house," recalled the Mayor. "I didn't know where it was. I didn't know if anybody was in the house," he added.

While Maso was on the phone with a 911 operator, he soon discovered that the Pollocks and their great granddaughter were inside the house. During the 911 recording, the Mayor can be heard telling the Pollocks to get out of the house.

The flames nearly reached the roof, but Maso grabbed a garden hose and extinguished the fire. "We were joking about it afterward and he [Mr. Pollock] said, I voted for you the first time; the next time I'll vote for you twice," the Mayor explained as he laughed.
