Frigid Night Ahead & Staying Chilly All Week

TONIGHT THE COLDEST NIGHT OF THE SEASON SO FAR FOR MOST

The heart of the upper level system that has brought North Texas rain, cold & even snow is moving eastward this evening and will be out of Texas altogether by tomorrow morning.  As the disturbance moves overhead between now & late tonight, there could be a few flurries or snow pellets once again fall, especially north of I-20.  We are not expecting to see accumulation, except for on a few car tops like we did this morning.  No travel issues with this very light, patchy flurry activity.

Skies will clear from west to east overnight and allow temperatures to plunge into the lower to mid 20s over a wide swath of North Texas.  For many, this will be the coldest night so far this season.  With this hard freeze anticipated, make sure you've wrapped exposed pipes and outdoor faucets, bring in the pets and plants and check in on elderly or disadvantaged friends or neighbors to make sure they're staying warm.

Tonight…Clearing & very cold.  Low 26°  Wind: WNW 10 mph

Wednesday…Mostly sunny & still chilly.  High 46°  Wind: Variable 5-10 mph

Thursday…Mostly sunny & cool.  High 52°

ANOTHER COLD FRONT FRIDAY

There is another upper air disturbance that will roll out of Canada late this week.  This system will be faster-moving and stay to our north.  It will drag another cold front through our area during the day Friday.  But with the dynamics so far north, we will not have enough moisture for any precipitation.  However, it will stay chilly all the way through the rest of this week and into the weekend.  High temperatures will be running about 10° below average every day in the 7day forecast.  Lows near freezing, highs near 50°.

MORE CLOUDS THIS WEEKEND

At first, when the front moves through on Friday, we'll have decent sunshine.  But as the weekend moves on, moisture will start increasing and move over the cooler temps at the surface.  This type of scenario easily produces cloud cover, especially this time of year.  We expect more clouds Saturday and especially Sunday.  There will even be enough moisture in South Texas for light rain by Sunday.  The area of rain will move north Sunday night into Monday.  We are not expecting a repeat of this past weekend's rain event..but just a few showers Monday.
