Fort Worth Neighborhood Evacuated After Bomb Threat

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM)- Residents in a west Fort Worth neighborhood had to be evacuated after police received a bomb threat.

According to Fort Worth Police around 5:00 a.m., a witness informed police that a male in his 30's appeared to be in position of bomb materials at a home on the 5400 block of Whitman Avenue.

A SWAT team was called to the scene to assist police with the investigation.

The suspect was taken into custody shortly after 11 a.m. after police were able to get him to peacefully surrender.

The Fort Worth Fire Department assisted police in deploying a robot to clear the residence of any suspicious materials.

Upon completion of the search the residence was deemed to be safe and the evacuations were lifted.

FWFD Arson/Bomb is now investigating and processing the crime scene.

There are no reports of injuries, and police emphasized that the situation doesn't appear to be related to any terrorist activity.
