Fort Worth Explores Convention Center Overhaul
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The large arena that is a part of the Fort Worth Convention Center is now 45 years old, and some city leaders believe that it either needs to receive a massive overhaul or be torn down.
The Fort Worth Convention Center will be hosting about 400 events this year, which are expected to bring a record $20 million in hotel sales to the city. So, now is the time, some city officials argued, to complete a major renovation of the downtown Fort Worth center and ensure that the facility is ready for future growth.
The head of the Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau and the city's Events Director both said that the large arena, located on the north side of the Fort Worth Convention Center, was in need of a makeover. The 10,000-seat arena was built in 1968 and has remained virtually unchanged since it was constructed.
Officials have launched a study into what could be done with the aged arena, and how much those options might cost.
