FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - City of Fort Worth crews are out spraying a neighborhood off of Westcreek drive and Altamesa boulevard for West Nile tonight.
A mosquito trap in that neighborhood tested positive for West Nile and now city officials have ordered the spraying take place.
Superintendent of the city's Consumer Health Department, Elmer DePaula, said they are taking this task very seriously.
"We want to reduce the population of the mosquito that carries the West Nile virus, and also to reduce the risk of exposure to West Nile virus to the population," said DePaula.
The spraying begins at 11 p.m. on Friday and is scheduled to last 5 hours. City officials said the last time they sprayed against West Nile carrying mosquitoes was back in 2012.
