Former Mavs Assistant Harris Nominated For Hall Of Fame
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Del Harris, a former assistant with the Dallas Mavericks and current General Manager of the Texas Legends, has been nominated for the class of 2013 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
The nomination, which is his first, stems from his influence as an international pioneer for the sport of basketball.
Harris has an impressive pedigree in the NBA, ranking in the top 25 in league history in games coached, games won, and playoff games coached. Internationally, he has coached five different national teams, including China and the Dominican Republic, winning six medals. He also coached Puerto Rican teams to three national championships in six years.
Harris was an assistant with the Mavericks from 2000-2007 under Don Nelson and Avery Johnson. Prior to joining Dallas, Harris was a head coach with Houston, Milwaukee, and the Los Angeles Lakers, compiling a record of 556-457.
As a nominee in the "Contributor" category, Harris can be voted in as a Direct Elect into the class of 2013. The Direct Elect will be announced in February at the NBA All-Star Game.
