Forecast Update for Monday, October 10
DENT MADE IN DROUGHT
The drought is not over and will not be over anytime soon…but the rainfall over the weekend did weaken the drought's grip over parts of North Texas in the short term. There were widespread rainfall totals of 4-8" in our far western counties. Rainfall amounts were still in a healthy 2-4" range into Tarrant & Johnson counties. Dallas, Collin, & Denton counties generally saw 1-2", with areas east of I35E seeing less than that.
But in order for the drought to end in North Texas, we need to see 15-18" of rainfall in the next 30 days. Now it's true that some locations saw about half of that this weekend, but seeing another event like this in the next few weeks Is very unlikely. But the grass will green up a bit, as previously unwatered seeds get new life over North Texas.
ONE MORE CHANCE OF RAIN, THEN DRY
The system that brought all the rain to North Texas is slowly pushing off to the east this afternoon. In its wake, skies have been clearing with mild temperatures in the lower 70s. Perfect weather for the ALCS in Arlington today. Look for some patchy fog to develop overnight…some of it could reduce visibilities to near ½ mile by morning.
Tuesday should be a quiet, dry day in between storm systems. Our next disturbance should dive in from the northwest during the day on Wednesday. It does not look like a repeat of the heavy rain event from this weekend, with this disturbance moving faster and farther to the north. We'll have widely spaced showers and a few storms on Wednesday. Skies should clear though by Wednesday night, leaving us with a sunny, warm Thursday.
Tonight…Partly cloudy, some patchy fog by morning. Low near 61° Light & variable wind
Tuesday…Partly cloudy & warmer. High near 84°. South wind 5-10 mph.
Wednesday…Mostly cloudy w/ a 30% chance of showers & t'storms. High near 86°
Thursday…Mostly sunny. High near 84°
BLAST OF AUTUMN NEXT WEEK
We will stay fairly warm for the rest of this week into the weekend. Next week, the jetstream looks to take dive farther south into the southern part of the country. This looks to bring us a chance of rain by next Tuesday and much cooler temperatures by the middle and end of next week. Highs could potentially stay in the 60s by Wednesday of next week! Stay tuned!
