Flooding Update

An Areal Flash Flood Warning continues until12:30am  for Dallas, Tarrant, Kaufman, Rockwall and Denton counties.

A band of heavy rain moved through parts of the Metroplex earlier tonight. It set off a wave of street and creek flooding. During the early evening reports were rapidly coming in of high water rescues, closed roads and traffic accidents.

Here is picture sent in from Kristin Peaks of Fort Worth flooding; she took this picture at Hulen St near  Central Market:

Video and photos are coming into our station. Our news crews and storm spotters are out gathering video on the closures and water rescues.

We are pleased to have the Dallas Cowboys preseason game on right now. Our late night news will immediately follow the game.  Please join Larry Mowry with the latest on the rain along with reports, video and photos of the flooding across the metro area this evening.

It appears that the rain will taper off overnight. We are watching some redevelopment of some thunderstorms near Wichita Falls. There is a chance these storms will get into our NW corner from Decatur to Gainesville. We are keeping a close watch on them. Since they are moving into such cooler air we are not expecting them to hold together and reach the flooded areas of the Metroplex.

The rain chance are much smaller tomorrow. We'll enjoy another day of cooler weather, highs will barely reach 90 degrees. Rain chances are at 40% and that seems a little generous. We do have a front moving through so this could fire up some rain despite and lack of ample daytime heating.

I should mention that the official high at DFW airport today was a mere 87°. This no only makes for the coolest day we've had this August, its the coolest day we've had since June 8th!

In the week ahead the rain chances fall off but highs will stay in the low 90's. The best rain chances show up again next weekend.
