North Texas lands Sweden and Czechia for World Cup training camps
The puzzle pieces for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North Texas are coming together, and two major ones fell into place Tuesday night: Sweden and Czechia will call the region home during the tournament.
Tournament organizers confirmed that Sweden will be based in Frisco, while Czechia will train in Mansfield.
With nine matches, a semifinal, and the International Broadcast Center already assigned to the region, officials say securing two national team base camps further cements North Texas as one of the tournament's busiest hubs.
"We have nine games, we have a semifinal, we have the International Broadcast Center — and now we have two nations that are going to have home base camps in this market," FC Dallas president Dan Hunt said. "I'm so excited that we're going to be able to welcome Sweden to Frisco and Czechia to Mansfield Stadium."
Both teams clinched their World Cup berths Tuesday night.
Mansfield celebrates its celection
In Mansfield, residents gathered to see which nation the city would host. Mayor Michael Evans said the room was on edge as the final qualification results came in.
"At BoomerJack's, we were going from one side to the other. Was it going to be Denmark? Was it going to be the Czech team? But of course, we know who won out – so guess what? That's where our allegiances lie," Evans said.
The new Mansfield Stadium, still under construction, will serve as Czechia's home base. City leaders say the project is ahead of schedule.
"We are ahead of schedule. As a matter of fact, if you go today, you'll see that beautiful green turf," Evans said.
REV Entertainment president Sean Decker echoed that confidence.
"Everything is on schedule. The team there, working with the city and all the subs, has been tremendous. We're on schedule — we hope to open in late May for a community event to show off the stadium," Decker said.
Sweden to train in Frisco
Across the Metroplex, Sweden will train at the FC Dallas facility in Frisco. Swedish star Herman Johansson is expected to practice in his home stadium during the team's stay.
Organizers say they're thrilled with the matchups.
"Sweden has a rich history – obviously playing in 13 tournaments – and Czechia making its first tournament since 2006. That's a great moment," Hunt said.
What's next
Officials expect both teams to arrive in North Texas around June 5. Sweden will play a group‑stage match at Dallas Stadium on June 25, facing Japan.
