1 killed, 1 injured after gunfire erupts during gathering at Fort Worth apartment, police say
One person was shot and killed, and another was injured after gunfire erupted during a gathering at a Fort Worth apartment complex overnight, police confirmed.
Fort Worth police told CBS News Texas that at about 3 a.m., officers responded to a shots-fired call at the complex near the 500 block of Cabral Circle.
When they arrived, witnesses told officers that an armed suspect, known by at least one person inside the apartment, showed up and caused a disturbance. Then, the suspect fired shots into the crowd, prompting another person to return gunfire, police said.
In a news release, Fort Worth PD confirmed that at least two people were shot during the exchange, including the initial armed suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, "possibly the same individual who returned fire, striking the suspect," was transported to the hospital.
The names of those involved haven't been released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
"At this time, we believe this to be an isolated disturbance and there is no danger to the general public," police said in a statement.
