Family Members At A Loss, After Young Mother Killed By Drunk Driver

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Family members believe a young mom stopped for gas when she was killed, never knowing she would never get to return home to her children.

Sylvia Zazueta was at the register, when a drunk driver slammed right into the convenience store taking her life.

In June Zazueta shared a sonogram photo on Facebook, a month later she would post pictures of the new baby boy she and her husband welcomed into the world.

"She's happy. Was always a good young. Lady took care of her kids, " says Zazueta's grandmother Susan Murrell.

The 24-year-old was a stay-at-home mom, whose grandparents say she put family first.

Zazueta was the mother of 2 boys and a girl, all under 7. The youngest is not even a year old.

Tuesday afternoon Elizardo Quinones received a phone call no grandparent wants to get.

"I expected, she was hurt very badly because my daughter-in-law was crying and I could barely understand what she was saying," explains Quinones.

While she was inside of Star Food Mart, located near the intersection of Lancaster Avenue and Riverside Drive, likely paying for gas, the driver of an SUV would come barreling into the store.

That driver has been identified as 19-year-old Isaac Adams and witnesses say he was driving at over 80 miles an hour.

"She was at the wrong place at the wrong time. She's with my mom and dad right now. She's happy up there with them," says Quinones.

"This is family crushed. Three children will now grow up without the mom who lived her life for them. I want them to know that she brought joy to this world always helping people. That's all she ever thought about."

Zazueta's grandfather says they have not been able to tell the children and says the family will be helping to support her husband, now a widow.
