Electric Streetcar Demonstration In Downtown Dallas
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Representatives from Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) received a demonstration of the new ameriTRAMÔ streetcar on Tuesday.
The same company that makes DART light rail cars manufactures the prototype streetcar.
The streetcar made a test run between the Akard and Victory stations on the Green Line.
The ameriTRAMÔ is electric and is powered by either overhead cables, like DART Rail, or onboard batteries.
The vehicle can travel up to five miles on a full charge.
DART is working with the City of Dallas on a number of transportation projects, including a possible downtown streetcar network.
