Drunken Man Drives Vehicle Into Apartment Unit
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Residents stared in awe Saturday afternoon as firefighters tried to remove a car stuck inside an apartment. Witnesses said a drunk man got behind the wheel at about 1:30 p.m. and tried to run over neighbors at his apartment complex.
"I'm still shaking and trembling," said resident Torey Boozer. "I just thank God that I survived it."
Boozer said a drunken neighbor hit him with his car, then slammed into his Sport Utility Vehicle and then careened into his apartment.
"He jeopardized my kids' life, other kids' lives around here," he said.
Boozer and his wife, Sonya Clark, have six children. Clark said she was in the dining room when she heard her husband's panicked voice outside.
She took her children from the home, and saw that one of her sons was in harm's way.
"He got off the bike, but he was just standing there watching everything that was going on. I just reached out and grabbed him," she said.
Watching the first responders pull her son's bicycle from under the suspect's car was almost unbearable, Clark said.
"My son could have been under that car," Clark said.
Boozer said the suspect, Steve Hill, is a resident at the Peppertree Acres Apartments in the 900 block of Oak Grove Court, just south of 35W in Fort Worth.
Boozer said Hill was drunk and started a fight with another man at the complex just before getting in his vehicle.
"He started a fight with him - he went into his car like he had something then he jumped into the car and tried to run over him. He was drunk, he was belligerent," Boozer said.
Boozer said he was the next target.
"I was sitting in the yard, I was trying to get all the kids out of the way and he plowed into me and put me in the windshield," he said.
As the family of eight searches for a new home, they said they are praying Hill remains behind bars. Hill told police that he was only defending himself during an attack.
Hill was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The other victim was taken to an area hospital is expected to be OK.
