Drought's Impact Felt On Your House Foundation

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - You're probably watering your yard during the sustained drought, but one expert says you may want to think about drenching your home's concrete foundation.

Fred Marshall with Advanced Foundation Repair says the drought can have a devasating erffect on your foundation. "High tempertures draw more water out of the ground and there's no rainfall to replenish it. Plants need much more water, so they're sucking away. The soil shrinks, which is why you see these great big cracks in the ground, and that causes the edges of foundations to settle."

He says you can help your cause by watering your foundation at night with a soaker hose. Marhall adds you may have to water a couple of hours a night.
