Driver Arrested For DWI After Hitting Pedestrian In Wheelchair

DALLAS (CBSDFW/1080 KRLD) - A driver is in jail after running over a disabled man early this morning.

Police say about 2:30 Thursday morning a driver smashed into 45-year-old John Carter as he was crossing Preston Road in a wheelchair.

Police believe the driver, 31-year-old Jonathan Robert Neal, was intoxicated at the time of the collision at Beltline and Preston and was placed under arrest.

The car is totaled, the wheelchair mangled, and the victim was rushed to Presbyterian Hospital and is currently in stable condition.

The family of Carter has since set up a GoFundMe page asking for help replacing his wheelchair and two prosthetic legs.
