FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) -  A 59-year-old teacher at Reinhardt Elementary School in Dallas ISD was arrested and charged with receipt of child pornography.

Mark Stutheit remains in federal custody after a probable cause and detention hearing Wednesday morning in federal court in Fort Worth.

According to the complaint and testimony at the hearing, the investigation began in May when an undercover officer with the Queensland Police Service (Brisbane, Queensland, Australia) and a person later identified as Stutheit exchanged emails about the sexual exploitation of children, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Northern District of Texas.

On June 23, special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant at Stutheit's home in Saginaw.

Investigators say they found "numerous files" containing child pornography on Stutheit's computer and mobile devices.

If convicted Stutheit faces up to five to 20 years in federal prison.

When CBS11 contacted DISD for comment a spokesman said via email:

""Today, Dallas ISD learned that a teacher at Reinhardt Elementary School has been charged in a federal child pornography case. The safety of our students is vital, and we will support law enforcement and take the appropriate steps to keep our students safe."
