DISD Students & Staff 'Band Against Bullying'

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Monday marks the first day of "Band Against Bullying Week" in the Dallas Independent School District.

School leaders say the campaign is an effort by the district to educate students and staff about the consequences of bullying.

Earlier this month the DISD Board of Trustees approved an anti-bullying policy.

The theme for the campaign is Bullying Stops Here and includes activities like Crazy Socks Day, meant to emphasize that differences can be celebrated and Athletic Shirt Day, where students dress as "one team" in the fight against bullying.

At James S. Hogg Elementary students kicked off the week by joining hands with parents and staff, and forming a line around the school to symbolize their 'band' against bullying.

Students, from elementary to high school, who pledge not to engage in bullying activities, will also receive a Band Against Bullying bracelet.

Band Against Bullying Week runs through November 18 in the DISD.
