DISD School Board To Vote On Superintendent's Principal Plan
DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - At DISD Headquarters, a crowd is gathering and dozens of speakers have signed up to address the board over a controversial plan to replace a number of the district's principals.
Superintendent Mike Miles told CBS 11 today that he was hired to raise student achievement and to improve that quality of instruction in DISD, and that requires change.
But, Miles has been facing community pushback and public criticism for weeks over a plan to replace as many as 50 DISD principals, primarily from low performing campuses.
"There are two that will be brought to the board for non-renewal and the 50 number is a moving target, so, we have approximately that number that will not be back next year," says Miles.
According to district officials, a number of those principals have opted to retire or resign.
Superintendent Miles acknowledged his critics; but, stressed that he and his team remain focused on "best educational outcomes for our kids-- that's the job."
