DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dozens packed a room at a recreation center to hear from DISD school board candidates on a range of issues.

CBS11 asked them specifically about ongoing problems at South Oak Cliff High School that we've covered over the last year.

In the last 24 hours concerned members of the community sent us video they say shows ants crawling all over a classroom.

It's just the latest in a series of complaints about conditions at the school that's more than 60 years old.

Students staged a protest overnight, camping out at the school until they say police asked them to leave.

A spokesperson for DISD says the district was aware of the protest and had no intention of breaking it up.

At the forum for some of those running for school board, dozens of voters crowded into the room.

We asked the candidates about the students' concerns.

All three of those participating say they hope to see improvements made.

"In terms of helping out South Oak Cliff, we have to look for ways to try to improve the environment in there. It's a learning issue. You can't learn if your AC or your heating is out. I mean it's a safety issue also," said school board candidate Jaime Resendez.

Current rustees are moving in the direction of a possible $40 million plan to renovate South Oak Cliff but for the people in this community that action isn't coming fast enough.
