CLEBURNE (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - Authorities said that a disabled man died in a North Texas house fire. Police in Cleburne stated that the 55-year-old victim was found dead just after 7:00 a.m. Tuesday morning in the burned home.
Family members have identified the victim as Steve Doty, a well-known veteran within the Cleburne area.
Investigators have not officially said what sparked the fire, but the family said that Doty was smoking in his bed. Family members tried to rescue him, but the heavy smoke and intense flames were simply too much to overcome.
Firefighters were able to battle the smoke and flames, and get the fire extinguished. The victim's body was then located inside of the destroyed structure.
