DFW Passengers Still Seeing Weather Delays
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - David Balunda had been waiting to see his wife and children for two days. "It's just been me and the dogs," he said, "watching 'White Christmas.'" His family was scheduled to return from New York on Sunday, but a blizzard delayed them -- until Tuesday.
As passengers walked off the plane from New York City, they shared their stories of seeing flight after flight get canceled. "Chaos. It was chaos," said Richard Miller, who also spent two days trying to get home.
"The snow was crazy," said Sam Balunda, David's son, when he finally arrived home. "We were seeing fire trucks and taxis stranded in the middle of the street. It was the craziest thing I've ever seen, probably."
Many people saw their holiday plans hindered by the snow. "Buses didn't run. Subways didn't run. You had to walk every place, slip and slide," said John Smith after returning from his vacation.
Michelle Johnston said that she and her husband spent about 16 hours in Penn Station, sleeping in a train car after the railways shut down. "They shut down the Long Island Railroad, all routes, all services," she said. "So, there was no way out. There was no place to go. We were just stranded there."
This is one vacation that the Johnstons, and many others, are happy to see end. "Relieved to be home," Johnston said, "definitely."
