DFW Dogs Fly To New York To Find Homes
GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - People were not the only ones affected by the winter storm that covered North Texas in ice earlier this month. Many dogs were victims of the storm as well, and it looked like some of them were going to be stranded. But now, some of those puppies are preparing for the flight of their lives.
The Society for Companion Animals picks up pets from small and rural animal shelters and ships them to different parts of the nation. But the ice storm last month left them overwhelmed with dogs looking for new homes. With many roads shut down and shelters filled to the max, they quickly became overcrowded.
But a rescue group in New York answered the call for help.
American Airlines is flying 25 dogs from DFW International Airport to LaGuardia Airport in New York on Thursday. This is more pets that have been flown out in a single day than ever before. The rescue group will pick up the pets in New York and try to find homes for all of the animals.
The dogs are expected to have new homes very soon, some possibly before Christmas on Wednesday.
