DeSoto Family Seeks Road Changes After Accident

DESOTO (CBSDFW.COM) - In the moments after they were struck by a car in DeSoto, two brothers called out for each other and their parents came running to the intersection of Pleasant Run Road and The Meadows Parkway.

"My younger son was doing most of the screaming. My older son, he didn't know what happened" said Victor Foreman, the boys' father, who was at home when the incident occurred.

Summer Foreman says she later learned that her older son tried to push her younger son away from the vehicle, but both boys were hit.

"I just think of my son as a hero" says Mr. Foreman.

DeSoto Police say ten-year-old Ja'Quail and seven-year-old Tra'Shun Foreman were hit by a motorist who entered the crosswalk at about seven o'clock Wednesday morning.

Ja'Quail suffers from cuts to his face and a broken leg. Tra'Shun was unconscious at the scene, but his mother says a CAT scan indicates no damage to his brain. Both boys have numerous abrasions.

23-year-old Darrell Gilyard was arrested at the scene for an outstanding traffic warrant and police have referred the case to the Dallas County Grand Jury.

Victor Foreman says he would like an apology from the driver, but the parents of the two boys also plan to ask the DeSoto City Council to add a school zone with flashing lights and a slower maximum speed at the intersection.

"If it wasn't my two boys, it could have been somebody else's two boys," Foreman said. "It's sad it takes a crisis like this to get some understanding about what needs to be done at the intersection."

Children's Medical Center of Dallas has tips on pedestrian safety.
