ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - DeSoto's decision to postpone its holiday parade was an easy one. The high school football team had a big playoff game Saturday night.

The DeSoto community that attended the game against Cedar Hill at AT&T Stadium in Arlington understood why the holiday tradition was postponed and didn't mind.

"I'd much rather be here than at a parade," said Tanya Dillard, whose son was playing in the game.

Cheerleaders, band members, and hundreds of fans poured into the stadium to watch their team compete for a chance to become state champions.

"We do it big. We really love to support each other," said DeSoto mayor pro tem Rachel Proctor.

Proctor is a 1999 graduate from the high school and even supported to school's teams in a big way.

"I was the eagle mascot in high school! I was on the sidelines for every game," said Proctor. "We'll take postponing a few traditions to come out and do something real big like this."

DeSoto fans left the stadium in high spirits as their team beat Cedar Hill 55-41. DeSoto will play in the state semifinals against Klein Collins.
