Deputies Wearing Blue Ribbon In Memory Of Joshua Football Player

JOHNSON COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Deputies in Johnson County donned blue ribbons Monday in memory of Joshua High School football player Aaron Singleton who died last Friday, the day after he fell hard during a junior varsity game.

Sheriff Bob Alford put out an email thanking his deputies for wearing the ribbon.  The Sheriff's Department said it's "mourning the loss of a beloved Owl.  Fly high, Aaron!"

Singleton was 15 years old.

Singleton's uncle said doctors found a blood clot near Singleton's brain stem after he suffered seizures after he fell.

By midday Friday the family was preparing to take him off of life support.

"He's unresponsive," his mother said. "They've done everything they can. The part they need to reach they cannot reach surgically."

Family and friends said Aaron was athletic and outgoing. Singleton's mother said she tried to make him drop out of football.

"Last semester I told him you're not playing football anymore. You're done. But he said, 'Mom! Mom! Come on! Please!' I said 'no you're switching classes.' But just a couple a day before school was over I said 'okay I'll let you play.' "
