IRVING (CBS11) – The memory and caring spirit of a beloved area dentist is carrying on through an act of charity.

35-year old Dr. Kendra Hatcher was the victim of a murder for hire plot in Dallas back in September. Two suspects have already been arrested but the alleged mastermind behind the murder, Brenda Delgado is still on the run from authorities.

While police work to try to capture Delgado and close the case, Dr. Hatcher's co-workers and friends have began raising money in her name to donate to the North Texas Food Bank on her behalf.

The goal is to raise $10,000 dollars by December 10th.

Laura Garcia who worked with Dr. Hatcher at Smile Zone in Irving said "We still have her here I feel like. With everything that we're doing for her."

Dr, Hatcher was known for her love of community service and helping those most in need. It is in that light that her work family is raising the money for NTFB.

Dr. Rick Linavong owns the practice where Dr. Hatcher worked and said, "Dr. Hatcher was always pretty much giving back to the community."

He also said in a strange coincidence he hired the murder suspect, Brenda Delgado 10 years ago as a dental assistant at a previous practice that he owned.

Dr. Linavong went on to say he never would have thought that a decade later he would also hire the woman who police say was killed because of a plan designed by Delgado.

Dr. Linavong added. Its heartbreaking to hear that there's an employee of mine in the past that may have been involved in this murder of Dr. Hatcher who is like a part of our family."

The irony isn't lost on him, and neither is the memory of one of his most beloved dentists.

If you would like to donate and help their fundraising efforts you can do so by calling (469)779-6402.
