First 100-Degree Day Of The Year & Debby
Tropical Storm Debby is packing 60mph winds, sitting 100 miles SSW from Apalachicola. The current forecast keeps Debby over open water off the coast of the Florida Panhandle for the next three t0 four days. The NHC is only giving a 21% chance of Debby getting to Category One power before it comes onshore at Panama City on Thursday. The forecast is for winds to get to 70mph.
As I blogged yesterday, the path continues to be uncertain. Just like yesterday the hurricane forecast models the NHC uses show no agreement on where Debby is heading:
This does not bode well for our heat wave. Debby will stay far enough away from Texas to keep clouds and a significant wind out of north Texas.
The official high at DFW as of 4:55 this afternoon was 100 degrees.
I should make the point that the "official" temperature is taken six feet off the ground over grass in the shade. If you are standing over concrete or asphalt in the sun the temperature is about ten degrees higher.
The forecast is for another 100 degree day tomorrow. And Tuesday. And Wednesday. It'll be close to that mark on Thursday and only drop to the upper 90's for Friday and next weekend. There is less than a 10% chance of storms as we get to the end of the work week. Texas hot, summer dry.
We'll continue to closely monitor T.S. Debby. I'll update the forecast track later this evening, Garry Seith will have the 4am updated forecast for you on the morning show tomorrow.
Which reminds me, tomorrow morning we have the premiere of two new morning anchors on CBS11, Brendan Higgins and Adrienne Bankert. I worked rehearsals with them both on Friday and they are both so incredibly witty and sharp the practice almost turned into a morning at the improv. You are going to love them both, I can hardly wait till the next time I get to fill in for Garry.
