DALLAS (CBS11) — More than two days after a 37-year-old Dallas woman was beaten and carjacked in a downtown Dallas parking garage, the two suspects still have not been caught.
Residents that live at the Davis Building in the 1440 block of Main Street received a flyer Saturday notifying them of a downtown public safety meeting set for Monday. Many residents said they hope to learn more at the meeting at The Woolworth Restaurant on Elm Street as to what the police and the building's manager are doing to prevent further incidents.
Vu Doung said he doesn't feel safe inside the Davis Building's parking garage, adding what happened Thursday is not an isolated incident.
"One time there were these two druggies walking around the whole place with their backpacks," he said. "My friend got attacked one time when he got off these elevators."
While detectives look for the two suspects, self-defense instructor Allen Mohler of Team Mohler MMA said there are two simple things everyone should do when walking in a parking garage alone.
First, he said, do not be looking down at your phone.
"If we are not paying attention, we become a real easy target," he said.
Second, Mohler said, hold your car keys between two knuckles with the tip of the key pointed out.
"Now if someone comes on me — bam! You just hit them with the tip of the key," Mohler explained. "That's it. It's not difficult. Once you hit them, you'll have time to get away."
