Dallas Zoo Attendance Swells Despite the Heat

Just since Memorial Day weekend, nearly 250-thousand people have come through the gates.  The all-time best year was 2008 when nearly 675-thousand guests came out and administrators expect to surpass that this year.  Attendance for June and July broke records and the first few days of August are looking very strong.  Many of the animals at the zoo are fine with the heat because they're native to desert climates.  But zoo keepers do what they can to keep the critters comfortable, like creating shade and placing big fans and cool rocks so they'll gather near the edge of enclosures where visitors can get a better view.  The keepers even concoct frozen combinations of juices, fruits and ice to cool the animals down.
