Dallas To Spray For West Nile Virus This Week

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- The City of Dallas said they were set to spray for West Nile Virus this week after "mosquito pools were confirmed positive for West Nile Virus," according to a press release from the city today.

Officials said that - weather permitting - several areas were scheduled for for mosquito control spraying between 9pm and 5am Thursday and Friday each night.

The areas to be sprayed are within the following general boundaries:

3600 block of Mount Rainer Street (75211): Rock Quarry Road on the north, Mt. Shasta Street on west, Hartsdale Drive on east, and Higgins Avenue on the south.

2900 block of Sundial Drive (75229): North Bend Drive on the north, Grissom Lane on the west, Webb Chapel Road on the east and Flowerdale Lane on the south.

6500 block of Lazy River Drive (75241): Laureland Road on the north, University Hills Blvd on the west, Crouch Road on the east, and Camp Wisdom Road on the south.

The city said that the insecticide they are using is approved by the Environmental Protection Agency but that residents in the above areas should avoid contact with the spray by staying indoors. "Persons inside a vehicle while trucks are actively spraying should remain in their vehicles with the windows up and the air conditioner on until the trucks pass and the spray is no longer visible," the city said in the statement. "Residents who come in contact with the spray are advised to wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water," the statement continued.

According to the release, the spray breaks down quickly in the presence of sunlight and has no residual effect.
