Dallas Reports Second Human West Nile Virus Case

DALLAS (CBSDFW) -- Dallas County Health and Human Services has announced a second human case of West Nile Virus.

The resident, who lives in the 75212 zip code, was diagnosed with West Nile Neuroinvasive Disease, the severe form of the disease.

The city's protocol is to spray in areas where the virus has been confirmed in mosquitoes, or in areas where increased mosquito numbers suggest a large potential for the virus.

Spraying will take place between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, and Monday, Aug. 10 in the following areas.

-- 2700 block of Lawrence Street (75215): Oakland Cemetary on the north, Leland Avenue on the west, Peary Avenue on the east and Anderson Street on the south.

-- 6000 block of Jim Miller Road (75228): Fenestra Drive on the north, Telegraph Avenue on the west, Senate Street on the east and RL Thornton Fwy on the south.

-- 5500 block of Northaven Road (75229): Forest Lane on the north, Strait on the west, Preston Road on the east and Pebblebrook on the south.

-- 200 block of Canty Street (75203): Colorado Blvd on the north, Haines Avenue on the west, N Ewing Avenue on the east, and E 9th Street on the south.

The city urges residents to take precautions, particularly during evening and nighttime hours. Residents are encouraged to wear clothing covering their arms and legs and to use mosquito repellent.

Standing water should also be eliminated to prevent mosquito breeding.
