Dallas Police Officer Kills Suspect Reaching For Gun

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - An officer with the Dallas Police Department shot and killed a suspect who was reaching for a handgun. The incident happened just before 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night.

Police were called to the intersection of Penelope Street and Cross Street, just west of Fair Park in south Dallas, for reports of a suspicious vehicle with tinted windows parked at the corner.

As the officer approached the vehicle, he spotted the passenger inside reaching for a handgun. The officer fired shots and killed that suspect. A second suspect -- the driver of the vehicle -- was taken into custody after a short foot chase. No police officers were harmed in this incident.

The deceased suspect was later identified as 29-year-old Cedric Stephens of Dallas.
