Dallas Fire Rescue Responds To Dozens Of K2 Overdoses

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas Fire Rescue has responded to 192 drug overdose calls for synthetic drugs like K2 and Spice in a matter of about five weeks.
The data was collected starting on December 1 and officials said the numbers continue to grow in 2016.
Addicts who are now recovering said despite a ban, synthetic drugs are easy to get and hard to detect.
"I felt like I was moving in slow motion and I was never going to come down," said Allyson Millinder, who's recovering at an Oak Cliff drug rehabilitation center.
Millinder along with Lindsy Kirby, said K2 and Spice are still very popular drugs amongst addicts.
"I used to do it when I was on probation because it was 'legal.' Gave me a really, really bad headache and one person I was with actually had a seizure," said Kirby.
Drug counselor DeRisa Payne at Nexus Recovery Center said the fact that the drugs are still so easy to get combined with the fact that K2 is virtually undetectable by any drug test makes it dangerous. The recipe for the synthetic drugs is always changing.
"It doesn't seem to sink in. It's not one of the big bad drugs," said Payne.
Dallas Police said it was unaware of the new numbers but, "looks forward to any leads," on who is still selling the drugs.
"If they continue to keep doing what they're doing, it's just going to get worse and worse and worse I believe," said Millinder.
