Dallas Animal Services Sorry For Dog Deaths

DALLAS (AP) - Officials with Dallas Animal Services say human error was to blame in the mistaken euthanasia of four dogs on New Year's Day.

The organization wouldn't say how many people were involved in the error but called it unintentional. It said the person or persons involved were still working with animals pending possible human resources action.

The canines were put to death about two days after they came to the shelter.

Rescuers say they had taken the animals out of a hoarding situation in Dallas where 27 dogs were kept in pens made out of pizza boxes. They had asked the shelter to keep four of the dogs for a few days while they found them homes.

The organization has issued an apology after launching an investigation into the deaths.
