Crews Battle Apartment Fire In Dallas
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Emergency crews in Dallas battled a four-alarm fire at an apartment complex in the northern part of the city. The flames were first reported at about 4:30 a.m. Monday morning at Hunters Court, located in the 8500 block of Spring Valley Road, near Waterview Drive.
Firefighters got to the scene and found heavy flames shooting from the second and third floors of a building at the complex.
"Saw tons of smoke when I first got up," recalled resident Joshua Fritsche. He quickly got his daughter and a few of his belongings, and evacuated from his home. "By the time I called 911, it had escalated. The top of the fireplace was completely engulfed in flames." Fritsche does not yet know if his apartment unit has been damaged.
There have been numerous apartment units burned, however. Officials have estimated that approximately 20 apartment units are involved in this fire, across at least two separate buildings. Crews had to fight the fire defensively at one point, after a wall collapsed. And a late flare up in the fire may have caused additional damage.
Most of the flames were put out by 6:00 a.m., but firefighters remained on the scene to continue extinguishing what was left of the blaze. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. One woman suffering from asthma was transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas due to signs of smoke inhalation.
The American Red Cross is heading to the scene of the fire to assist those residents who have lost their homes during this incident.
